Volkswagen is celebrating 60 years of presence in the UK marketplace this year, and to celebrate they are going to have a strong presence at the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed next month.
One of the cars to be showcased there will be their new hyper-efficient concept of urban mobility, the XL1. Its body is made largely of carbon-fibre reinforced polymer and its hybrid engine is a 800 cc diesel engine with an electric motor, basically half of your 1.6 TDI.
Besides this fuel sipper, Volkswagen will bring a binge drinker, the Polo R WRC which is terrorizing the rally scene. There will also be a showroom at Goodwood which will display two of the hottest version of the new Golf, the new GTI in its 230 PS performance incarnation and the GTD, a diesel car with the performance to match any hot hatch. The GTD packs a new 2-liter turbo diesel good for 84 PS and 380 Nm of torque, helping it to reach 62 mph from rest in just 7.5 seconds and hit 142 mph flat out, while also returning 67.3 mpg, basically identical to a 1.6 TDI.
