Everybody knows that BMW almost never makes a concept just for the sake of it, since most have turned into production cars. In case last year’s top-down debut from BMW, the i8 Concept Spyder attracted your attention, you’ll be happy to know that it might be heading for production. Oh yes, you heard it right, electric power and the wind in your hair.
It seems that the recently-unveiled i8 coupe might make its appearance with no roof at the Paris Motor Show in September 2015. Concerning its design , the vehicle will be very much alike its coupe counterpart except for the fact that it will feature a removable roof panel and is slightly shorter.
Unlike other cars that head for production and change their design, the i8 Spyder will keep the concept’s overall shape but it will be more down to earth when it comes to its tail lamps and side windows. Concerning the scissor doors that swing upwards, you’ll be pleased to hear that they will definitely be kept, since they're also on the coupe.
Something that is also identical with the coupe is the gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid drivetrain that is based around a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine This, together with two electric motors are what will power the car, providing around 362 horsepower and 420lb-ft of torque via an automatic transmission.
