Exelis has announced that it is providing single and dual vehicular radios systems and dismounted soldier radio systems to an unidentified customer. The direct commercial contract from an existing customer includes installation kits and carries a value of $30 million.

The RT-1702 SINCGARS, or Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio Systems, being provided will be used on a variety of military vehicles, the company said.

"This order is from a long-standing international customer that recognizes not only the robustness of the SINCGARS radio, but also the technological upgrades that have kept it on the cutting edge of battlefield communications," said Ken Harrison, the vice president and general manager of the Exelis Night Vision & Communications Solutions' international business area.
Exelis said the RT-1702 SINCGARS is a fifth-generation system and integrates enhanced capabilities, including a robust encryption protocol.

The radio provides voice and network data services in its mounted and dismounted configurations. The radios will be produced by Exelis' facility in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Additional contract details were not disclosed.
