It’s probably too late to register for this year’s Iditarod (March 1), and you probably didn’t have 16 Alaskan Huskies ready to go anyway. But if it’s a race across the snowy tundra you desire, it can be done simply with your mountain bike and the KtraK snowmobile bike kit.

With a ski replacing your front wheel and a rear traction system mounting over your rear tire, your bike instantly goes from out-of-its-league to human-powered snowmobile. The kit installs quite easily (no tools necessary), it’s fabricated with reinforced nylon and sealed bearings, and the whole system only adds about 5 lbs. to your ride. Conversely, 16 huskies weigh in at about 720 lbs. And then there’s all that Kibbles n’ Bits you gotta bring. [via]
